We Recommend Regular Hygiene and Teeth Cleanings to Help Maintain Optimal Oral Health!

• A complete periodontal assessment.
  A complete check of your gum tissue, including checking for any gum recession, the presence of gingivitis and possible gum disease.
• An intra-oral exam to check the gum tissue, tongue, and lips for confirmation of health.
• Scaling, which is the process of removing plaque, tartar (calculus) and bacteria from your teeth so your gums and bone that make up the foundation of your teeth remain healthy and disease free.
• Polishing to remove stains from your teeth.
• Fluoride treatment (if desired)
  After your dental cleaning, you will be provided with the option to receive fluoride treatment. Fluoride is a natural mineral that helps strengthen the enamel, which is the outer layer of your teeth, and helps to prevent cavities from forming.

• Digital X-rays when required
  Radiography helps your dentist detect cavities in between teeth, assess bone levels and detect other possible problems within your oral cavity. Your dentist will decide what type of images are needed and how often you need them based on your oral health examination.
• Sealants (if desired)
  Sealants are protective coatings that are applied on the deep grooves on your back teeth to help prevent cavity formation in the future. Applying sealants is a simple, quick, and painless procedure.
• An oral cancer screening:
  At each visit we make every effort to screen your oral tissues, which includes the head, neck, and jaw area, to assess the health and signs of oral cancer. Our goal is to identify mouth cancer in the early stages or even before it turns into cancer, when there is a better chance for treatment and cure.

The Lume Dental team understands that every patient will require a different hygiene and checkup schedule best suited to their individual needs. Most people come in for a dental hygiene appointment every 6 months, although some people may benefit from coming in every 3-4 months, while others may be able to visit every 9-12 months. Genetics, home care, grinding habits, teeth positioning and predisposition to cavities are all key factors in determining the best check-up schedule for you. For those who are experiencing gum disease, heavy staining, loose teeth or heavy calculus buildup, a higher frequency of cleaning will help keep teeth healthier. Our team will work together with you to determine how often you should visit us for a dental cleaning/check-up based on your specific and individual needs.
